Research and Commerical Application of Gold Extraction by Bacteria Oxidization and Cyanidation

 

The gold extraction process by bacteria oxidization and cyanidation is to oxidize the sulphide minerals in the ore under suitable conditions by microbes that exist in nature and are cultivated and acclimatized to liberate the gold minerals, and then cyanidatiion gold extraction is carried out. It is one of the effective methods for the pretreatment of refractory gold ore with arsenic content.

 

This achievement was completed depending on our own technical strength under the National Key Scientific and Technology Project of The Ninth Five Year Plan, “Research on the Development and Utilization of Refractory (for Mining, Mineral Processing and Smelting) Gold Mine Resource”. Based on the characteristics of the refractory arsenic gold ore in this country, HY35-1 ferrous oxide thiobacilli with higher vitality, stronger adaptability, and quicker oxidation was selected, cultivated and accliminated. During the course, 12 kinds of refractory arsenic gold concentrates were studied for bio-oxidation gold extraction, through which lots of technical data and parameters were obtained, and the two step oxidation method that may be used to quickly oxidize those gold concentrates that contain arsenic over 10% or sulpher over 20%, or with high content of harmful impurities, extrafine, and occladed occurrences.

 

 

This technology has made obvious economic achievements in commercial operation as its first case in Shandong Yantai Gold Smelter. Applying this technology, our institute undertook the demonstrating project of high-tech industrialization entrusted by the formor National Planning Committee --- the design and construction of Liaoning Tianli 100 tons/day Bio- Oxidation Concentration Plant. The research, design, and construction work of this plant was independently carried out by our institute, and we own the all the interlectuell property.

 

The process of two stage bio-oxidization gold extraction has won the gold medal for invention of 2003 London International Expo, and we have made application for invention patent of to the Chinese authority.
